As a child growing up in a traditional Buddhist family, I had an array of buddhas and bodhisattvas to relate to. I was told they all loved me and they all had something valuable to teach me, but that I should pick one to work closely as my guide. In my 10 year old mind, I was desperately frightened to pick the "wrong" one. My human Buddhist teacher told me, I will be tested once I am ready. I prayed hard and did my karmic duties, but it wasn't until I was 15 years old that I was tested. I was standing at the door of the hospital room where my father laid. I walked over to his bed and started to touch his body systematically, starting from his crown down to his feet, placing my hands at each of his chakra points. I was guided by my spirited bodhisattva to feel for warmth and that the hottest one is where my father's soul was leaving from. I did it a few times just to be sure, it was his throat. He had always been a talker. As my father's soul left from his throat, Kuan Yin Bodhisattva stood by me with one of her hands on my back, drawing what seems to be an endless spiral. And that was my introduction to my spirit guide, Kuan Yin.
